I was never comparing anyone or anything I classed as pop to Neil Young.

It all comes down to what comes under pop.

Also what you define as good albums

Such as Smashing Pumkins had a number of good albums and a number one with tonight etc...do they come under pop?

Most rock bands struggled to make it with their first album, having spent a lot of time playing in small clubs and such, thus working on the same set of songs for a long period of time. Then they sign have a pretty good debut and get rushed into making a second album to capitalize on the success of the first losing the creativity and refinement of the first.
