If fact I have never earned 15k.

Ever the Optimist but I recall reading somewhere if you dont pay a penny off like me after x years they wipe the account.
Apparently you have to tell them if you go overseas, I can't see how that was enforcable, the threatening tone says they may accelerate the interest rate if you have gone abroad without telling them.
Some of the countries I was in do not have any agreement with the UK (eg Belarus) even though I was only there briefly.
Another question I had was that If you declare bankruptcy, you will have to pay off a small % of the loan (a la Leeds United) Are student loans covered in this?
The answer is:
Yes. Since 1 September 2004 all outstanding student loans cannot be claimed in bankruptcy. They remain the responsibility of the (former) student to repay within the terms of the loan arrangement.
If you were made bankrupt before 1 September 2004 you may still have to repay your student loan. Clarification should be requested from the Official Receiver who is dealing with your affairs.
Otherwise you could have cashed your student loan put it in a safety deposit box in Switzerland and claimed it after bankruptcy. Its what I was was thinking of doing.

I got out a Student Loan in 2003, 3k/year for four years.
Now I'm paying nearly thirty quid a month in interest. Scum!
Got off quite lightly there. Mine's over £16k now with interest at over £32 a month. On my current salary, I'd expect to finish paying it off in 2039. Pathetic system. </BLOCKQUOTE>
You know you can pay off more a month if you want? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Yeah, I'm aware of that. Still a dreadful system though.
