I got out a Student Loan in 2003, 3k/year for four years.
Now I'm paying nearly thirty quid a month in interest. Scum!
Got off quite lightly there. Mine's over £16k now with interest at over £32 a month. On my current salary, I'd expect to finish paying it off in 2039. Pathetic system.

You know you can pay off more a month if you want?
Unfortunately the company suffers because people thing they have a divine right to free higher education and resent the fact that they have to pay it back. That causes them to bad mouth the SLC at every opportunity.
I worked on the customer facing side of the company for over 2 years and whilst mistakes were made (as they are in any large organisation) a great deal of effort always goes into resolving the issues.
The 'evidence' was a recording of a phone call - I was told the management would listen to it, but later when I requested a copy under the Data Protection Act I was informed the recording had been destroyed! Imo this was very convenient for the Student Loan Company.

I'm pretty sure that won't be true.

As far as I knew all calls are recorded and saved on computer although I don't know how long they are retained for. I do think it's highly unlikely that someone's gone in and deleted it though (if that's even possible).
i've been trying to ring SLC for ages over the last week and all I get through to is a machine which is starting to frustrate me because there is no option to speak to an advisor. You got a better more direct telephone number i could use?
