Ahh thanks thats cleared it up.

I think your right its better to take the loan out now as there wont be any better loans out there and repayments aint too bad i suppose. Even if they charge 70 quid a month now

It is a life defining moment when you pay off your final instalment.
It's the snipping of the last thread between your childhood and adulthood.

£70 a month. Ed Balls. I'm not even paying that a month, I'll die before I pay this back

I got out a Student Loan in 2003, 3k/year for four years.

Now I'm paying nearly thirty quid a month in interest. Scum!

Was that to buy an ipod? Or an mp3 player?
Not but seriously, student loans are pretty good. Its easy-ish to pay back when you are earning over certain amount. Lowest rate you will find in market!

I've been involved in a dispute with the Student Loans Company for several years.

I take every opportunity to bad mouth them because they deserve it.
Such a shame there are no feasible alternatives.

They are frighfully disorganised and yet are the kind of company that's adamant that one of it's workers couldn't possibly have made a human error.
Meanwhile they destroy the evidence that would prove otherwise!

Very poor joke! But I agree, it's a very low rate and I advised my mate to take one and put it in a savings account, and he did, and he's laughing now.

I'm pretty sure that won't be true.

Unfortunately the company suffers because people thing they have a divine right to free higher education and resent the fact that they have to pay it back. That causes them to bad mouth the SLC at every opportunity.

I worked on the customer facing side of the company for over 2 years and whilst mistakes were made (as they are in any large organisation) a great deal of effort always goes into resolving the issues.

What other company or bank would lend someone £12k and only charge £30 a month interest?
