you cant go every day. 3 times a week is fine enough, you need to cool down and let your body cool down so you dont feel sore the next day, if you go to the gym every day you will be stuffed by week 2 and wont want to go anymore

I've lost about 30 kilos over 2 years or so, did it slowly and it's all stayed off nicely - starting to get back into it atm cos I want to get down to about 94-5 kgs (I'm 99ish now) and did my first weights sessions last week. Thought I'd done pretty well, wasn't too sore and then I woke up the morning after. Ghastly, haven't been able to do any more for about 5 days, back into it tomorrow though.
Oh and I agree with Senegal when it comes to interval training, although I did mine a little differently - 40 minutes with 5 minutes walking to warm up either side, 30 seconds flat out sprint followed by 90 seconds jogging. Works a treat.

| depends on what you are working on and the intensity.
light jogging and cycling every day, plus moderate weights 3-5 days out of 7 focusing on different muscle groups each day is possible. realistically 3 to 5 times a week is plenty

I have tried to run in the evenings sometimes, but I end up absolutely exhausted after about 10 mins and unable to go on, even if I pace myself yet can go 20 mins quite fast on the treadmill no probs...
| because on a treadmill your running on the spot.
you put your foot down you bring it straight up you've moved a meter or so.
outside your actively having to push yourself forward

Haw fellas and ladies (hello Nixchatabox), I finally joined my local gym today, £28.50 a month, got an induction on Monday I am to do the following
Mon-Fri - 08.30-10.30
Sat/Sun - 10.00-12.00*
Obviously depends on matchday, I want to work on Cardio at first, treadmills/cycling/rowing, I get free use of the Sauna as well \o/ that'll help my skin . My target is to run the London Marathon in 2008, christ if Bagpuss can do it then I sure as sh!te can.
So OTF, tell me about your regime and stuff and some tips I can use | if your target is marathon, avoid weights at all. </BLOCKQUOTE>
very good point, don;t do weights until you have a high stamina fitness program, then maybe some light weight sets for the legs to build up some strength, which is what i have been doing, but really it should all be cardio stuff, your muscles will build themselves, also going out on the road will be more interesting than pounding a tread mill !

Just got back, did sets on treadmill/rowing/cycling and then some light weights to help my back/leg/arm muscles.
Knackered now and got a full day of work ahead of me
Roll on tonight, going to do an hour.

dont agree with the not doing weights thing if you are training for a marathon, a sensible programme can help enormously.

started going about 2 months ago when I started my new job, as I would get just about no exercise at all (in a office now). Generally go about 3-5 times a week depending on how I feel that week. Have never really been overweight and always kept myself active when at school/uni. Was 75 lbs when i started I think I still am now but I can definantly tell I'm miles more CUT UP then I was before and can last longer on all the machines.
Generally I do 20 minutes Cardio on the cross trainer which can be hard work genrally get to about 6 Kilometers in that time now althrough nearly got to 7 yesterday when I was up for it.
Then have a sprint on the treadmill at Level 12 for 10 minutes then go down to the weight room depending on how busy it is.
