Actually, when saying what manager would want the job, it's the same for players. What players of the quality needed would want to come to us now, especially if they didn't at the beginning of the season, so it's going to be hard for any new managers to sign players if they are given funds or not.
As Davies himself said on saturday, the money would do that. I didn't get the feeling in the summer that the players didn't come in because they were turning the club down, but simply that he wasn't given the money in the first place. If you look at the number of players West Ham were able to attract last january, and also in some cases the clubs they turned down to go there, you can see that players will respond to a hefty wage packet and the sight of considerable investment in the playing staff, even with a club in trouble.

Even if Davies stayed were they going to make money available ? I thought they would maybe step back a little and decide if they want to chuck a bunch of money at it and still go down rather than save it and add to the squad in the summer for another push and collect parachute payments ? Wont they just assess how likely Derby are to survive before making money available to whoever ?

Basically I think that they probably have money to invest, but have lost faith in Billy's abilities to define "quality players" and are now reluctant to open their chequebook for him.
Earnshaw being Derby's record signing, yet he plays 5 minutes per match if he's lucky, being just one example...

From what's being said on Radio Derby, Earnshaw wasn't signed by Billy Davies, he was signed by the board, hence the reason he's not being played. He's clearly not a Billy type of player anyway and has been absolutely dreadful when he has played.

makes sense to me. Yes Derby have a very poor squad but they are picking up no points whatsoever and getting thrashed;- not solely down to the players. It is worth a try with another manager though Derby WILL still get relegated. The problem is who is really willing to take this on? Can't see Paul Jewell doing it as he turned down some bigger opportunities.
Glad I didn't bet on Southgate being next manager to be sacked now, but I can see him being next. Every match are possible points to stave away from relegation. Everytime points are dropped the situation becomes more and more desperate. They need someone to change that.

Adam Pearson is no idiot. This is either a irreconcilable breakdown between manager and chairman or Pearson has something spectacular up his sleeve. Like new investment that needs a higher profile manager or something.
