Views and opinion on the latest movers and shakers in the literary world, what are you reading now, what are you reading next etc etc.
Hopefully we can keep it going even if it's only a couple of people - see the Space thread ?
I also had a semi idea of some sort of OTF book swap, or similar. Not sure if that is a good idea or not though as we'd probably need quite a few to keep that going and stop it griding to an almighty halt.
I should be quite active int his thread as I'm trying to read some literature (as opposed to the history non-fiction that i generally read) atm. Currently reading Bleak House. I'm about a third of hte way throguh and it's just beginning to get going really but I have enjoyed it up to now and I love the language.
i STILL haven't got into reading even after my thread on here about classical literature, shame as i really do want to get into reading again, just haven't found the inclination or time.
started reading some poetry though, Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Walt Whitman
i usually ahve about 10 things on the go at once, but i've had loads of uni **** to read which has diverted me from proper reading of late. what i was reading and really enjoying was
michel faber - the crimson petal and the white. i dunno if anyone has read his previous book, under the skin, which was a crazy thriller thing. this is completely different, it's essentially a traditional victorian romantic epic (except for the fact it's a modern author), but with a lot of really explicit sex and other stuff victorian authors couldn't only really hint at. c'est très bien. seems incredibly well researched too.
and also don quixote on and off. that's too weird to read in anything other than small chunks, but it is the book just about every novel ever since owes something to.
I'm in the middle of reading Angels & Demons by Dan Brown, and then I plan on reading Deception Point by him. Dunno what I'll go onto after that but my brother keeps telling me to read The Hobbit and then Lord of the Rings. Anyone read LOTR?
