thinking of trying 'the rise and fall of the third reich' by William Shirer. Seems to be pretty highly rated and the subject matter is something that fascinates me. It's quite huge though. Is it worth bothering?
| Yes. It is a big, dense book, but the writing is good enough that it's not a slog to get through.

I guess I've just hardly been thinking about books during my finals, I'd always had intentions to read afterwards, but never thought about which ones. i'll read the next harry potter when that comes out, that's not going to take long though.

| 'Brick Lane' is by Monica Ali. Decent read.
I'd heartily recomend 'Rise and Fall ...' if you're into Essay.

Had a few weeks of more fantasy based reading. After finishing the penultimate Potter book, I read the Deptford Mice trilogy due to a friends insistence. The last book is really, really brutal. I'm sure "kids" books never used to be like this. Literally had no idea which (if any) of the characters would survive. The pace dropped a bit in the second book, but I must confess to really enjoying it and the various plot lines come together well for what is a pretty spectacular finale.
Just finishing off the last Potter book, and then I shall turn my attention to the Crusades book before Retro kills me.
