I've read the first couple of sections of "The Shadow of the Wind"by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (or whatever), but not really getting into it yet. Someone tell me it gets better? Please?

Really close to going back to Norrell & Strange, about time that got a second read, could finish it in time for getting Ladies of Grace Adieu for Christmas...

after that i may go for stephen kings dark tower series. i read the first 3, but that was a while ago and i have forgotten all about it now.
Read everything Jonh Grisham, my favourite author. read a lot of Stephen King too although I don't think I've read the Dark tower series.

Also regarding LOTR, definitely recommend reading it, I read it a good 4 years ago though so I may be due a re-read. Very good books.

Also what is the general consensus regarding Discworld? Always wanted to read them but are they worth reading? Are they easy to get into?

Some are, some aren't. I recommend starting with the Granny Weatherwax stories - I found them easiest to get into. The Ankh Morpork ones are harder work. Death is somewhere in between.

Just finished re-reading Anna Funder's "Stasiland". Great book that. I'm in the position now that for the first time in ages I have no new books to read, and I have no intentions of buying any new books. So, I get to enjoy re-reading the massed shelves of books I own for the first time in a while. Not sure what's going to be next. Possilbly Berlin Noir again.

Absolutely - the Death books are my favourites - I just found the Weatherwax books easiest to get into when I was starting out.
