Bergy, when you calculated your Tax credit and benefits did you include the childcare costs as well?
I phoned the tax office who gave me those figures. </BLOCKQUOTE>

i only ask as we have just put our boy in Nursery and we now receive an additional 300 quid from them to assist with cost of child care on top of the tax credit and child benefits we were already getting. </BLOCKQUOTE>

I've asked for the forms in the meantime.

I'll fill them in and send them of when the time has come.

Obviously the information then will be a lot more accurate.

The only problem with the childcare cost is they can't give you a figure until you have the child registered with a nursery or childminder but i beleive it's usually between 60-80% you get back in return which isn't bad really. We just called them up and did it all overt the phone and got our first credit within about 2 weeks.

Your local council should be able to give you a list of local childminders and I would suggest a childminder and if it's at all possible for your wife to do part/flexi time would be the best arrangement.

And I'm Andy Cole.

I have pretty much worse outgoings than you, plus my wife doesn't work (hasn't for the past two and a half years), was robbed of my bonus from my former Italian employers (still waiting to sue their asses in court...), bought a house and earn just 40k p.a. It can be done easily on a single wage if, like the others have said, you make cutbacks.

Nursery for a 5-6 month old is pretty cruel in my opinion. Let them know their parents; get your wife to work part-time at the most; she could get a weekend job...

Second baby is on the way at last too

Makr sure the childminder has had a recent - successful - OFSTED too. They can be found (their reports and details) via the OFSTED website. We have stumbled across an excellent childminder who has just qualified and came through her OFSTED with flying colours. She is very affordable for Surrey too. It means my wife is doing the odd morning of supply work, safe in the knowledge that Izzy is safe and happy.
