I still think England can win Euro 2008 for the record.

Comments bit is ace, full of people recomending nobodies and such. However, two to look out for - Cherno Samba and Paul Iffil of Millwall Tony Hibbert will undoubtedly be in the England line up in the next two years. Newcastle has a couple of outstanding young players in Michael Chopra and Richard Offiong. The future is bright on the Tyne! John Welsh at Liverpool is a cert in a couple of years - midfield or defence. Also expect Malcolm Christie and John Terry to become regulars soon. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Jermaine Jenas. |

The end of the actual article does temp to dampen the enthusiasm somewhat though:
A warning
No doubt England's rivals will be gnashing teeth at the land of milk and honey awaiting fans of the Three Lions.
But a look back one decade offers hope to those who thrive on England's failure.
The England Under-21s side of 1993 does not exactly read like a list of world beaters.
For every Steve McManaman - himself an international disappointment - there is a Billy Kenny, a Neil Cox and a Nicky "Swindon Town" Summerbee.
Perhaps the end to what is rapidly approaching 40 years of hurt is not quite as close as it appears.

Goalkeepers - Paul Robinson, Chris Kirkland, Robert Green, Richard Wright.
Defenders - Michael Dawson, Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown, Martin Taylor, Tony Hibbert, James McEvely, Matthew Taylor, Darren Kenton.
Midfielders - Michael Tonge, James Milner, Gareth Barry, David Dunn, Jermaine Pennant, Joe Cole, Matthew Etherington.
Strikers - Neil Mellor, Carlton Cole, Wayne Rooney, Jermaine Defoe, Francis Jeffers.
A squad of these players at 2006 would be in with a chance.
| Almost swallowed my tounge laughing at the thought of Darren Kenton, Francis Jeffers and Carlton Cole playing at the WC 2006.

The article is rubbish. But it isn't possible to predict exactly who will go on to greatness (Gerrard) or not (Kenton, Jeffers, Cole, McEveley, Taylor). I bet if we did one now and checked in 5 years we'd be laughing at a few of our picks. Anything can happen.

England will still win Euro 2008. This whole rubbish about Kosovo going its own way will spread all across the Balkans, Croatia will be involved too and then suspended by UEFA, who will proceed to pluck those pale English arses off the beaches of Spain to play in the tournament without any decent preparation, which equals zero stress and expectations, and thus supreme glory.
Hey, it wouldn't be a first :p

Typical media hyperbole. Bored hack probably just raided the CM database at the time to see who would be good a few years later.
I hate the media. Although I can't wait to see how Joe Lovejoy and his chums at the Sunday Times portray Our 'Arry as the saviour of English football THIS weekend. Last weeks' paper was just horribly xenophobic and wrong.
