My laptop is from PC World (), and when the DVD drive developed a mechanical fault I had to go through that 'Tech Guys' service to diagnose the problem before they'd replace the drive under my warranty.
The advice they gave me was ridiculous. Despite describing what was clearly a mechanical problem (wouldn't read discs, made a horrible clicking noise as it was trying to do so) the first guy was adamant that I should try re-installing the drivers. He talked me through the process, got confused halfway through, and then told me there was clearly something wrong with the way Windows was configured.
The next guy told me he wouldn't action a replacement until I had done a complete system recovery - meaning I had to back up all my data, re-burn all my music etc. Twats.
Thats what happened to me, in the end i just said "i'm absolutely adamant its a hardware problem and nothing at all to do with the way my windows is configured" and he just drop it off at your local store and we'll pick it up. </BLOCKQUOTE>
tbf all customer support are like that. I had to ring Mesh up for what i knew was a HD problem. Again they told me reinstall drivers/windows etc/. I just told them i did it, as i knew for a fact it was a software issue
PC World is generally for people who dont know anything about computers, hence they sell you all the crap ad ons like Norton and Tech Support that anyone with a bit of knowledge would just laugh at them
I needed a desktop wireless card on a sunday so i travelled to pc world. Got there and asked but the woman was adament that i get the slower more expensive usb one. The reason? You might void your warranty.
I always ask very techincally question in PC World. I asked the gay once if there were any PCI expansion slots on the motherboard and got a very blank look
TBF it looks like it covers all your PC's so its better than it sounds. Might work out cheaper than getting advice from elsewhere for £20 an hour for someone who is genuinley clueless.
