he did it over a longer period, and at his peak he was probably on a par with him, but it's hard to say, I nearly didn't put RvN down, but I think if we're talking overall ability (i.e counting how well Ruud did in europe, the cups, and maybe even internationally) then he'd have been ahead of Shearer. Purely on premier league then Shearer did it for longer so you could well argue for him.

basically Arsenal with a smattering of Chelsea. not that interesting at all really. don't think it's particularly biased to suggest there's not a Liverpool player worthy of replacing anywhere there. Gerrard came closest. Hyppia at his best might scrape onto the bench, if it's a 7-man one.

I'd go with that but with Gerrard in ahead of Essien, for now at least, might well change in a couple of years. I think you've got to do it for longer than 2/3 seasons to go in an 'all time' team, which is why I had Desailly ahead of Stam in my original team. Not sure about Petrescu but I can't think of anyone better.
