Agree with you there Don (see post on last page). The idea that Shearer was better than Bergkamp seems almost comical to me.

I'm interested who the 9 are better than him (Bakari a given obv.)
| I've always seen him as a benefit of the Rafa system with zonal marking, he's not that skilled a player, just fits in very well to Rafa's system, I'd argue a lot of right backs could fit into his system and do just as well, Belletti, Neville, Johnson, Richards, Corluka and Lucas Neill could all do just as good a job in my humble opinion.

and fwiw had Gattuso got an early yellow (which he probably should have), then Ronaldo could well have had the freedom to keep us in that game. But unfortunately Gattuso was all over him and effectively took him out of the game.
| Gattuso doesn't seem the type to back down because of an early yellow imo.

Corluka probably a good shout actually, been really impressed with him. Belletti also immense but a different type of player tbh.

haha
Why not go the whole hog and throw in a few more mediocre right backs?

Weren't Liverpool after Lucas Neill? I don't think he's better really, but maybe Rafa did.

We wanted him to do the role Arbeloa fills now. Not a Finnan replacement, more an understudy to any area of the back four.

| yeah obviously its a team game, but do you expect John O'Shea to do something special to win the game? Ronaldo is made out to be the best player in the world( By the english media) and he's nowhere near it. Top players like Gattuso just take him for face value, they look past all the fancy step-overs, nothing they've seen before and take him out of the game.

If hes good enough for Milan to decide they want to 'waste' 1 of the best midfielders in the world to mark him then he is still actualy doing a very valuble job for his team.
