What kind of places do people think are worth going. Also what kind of things are worth putting in an application form, how long, minimum, would you send yours out. Help...unfortunately needed.
entirely depends what you want to do, how you think it will help you in the future etc.
I've worked in the IT department of staffordshire university, the czech national library in prague, working on databases, portals and gateways and I'm about to start a small placement at my old secondary school in IT and business studies lessons. also working toward a (paid) placement in the summer in a school in manchester.

I did some at a local newspaper in Morecambe (im from the wirral btw) working with the sports editor. Not really planning on going down that route. would rather work in TV but some of the skills are transferable, such as deadlines, phone interviews, following up leads, research etc etc.
I really enjoyed it, and even got a couple of stories printed in it. I was quite lucky though, my uncle who is a sub-editor on the paper sorted it out for me and i got to work in a small office with some really nice people.
Even been offered some more this summer if i fancy it with the photography team.
