The only real negative is the slightly reduced lack of privacy but that's worth paying imo for not having to live in the godawful south London suburbs. Just be scrupulous about who you move in with (i.e avoid the en masse Aussie/NZ/SA or East European houseshares).
Some of the people I shared with in London are my closest friends now. I would rather live with a couple of other people and live in somewhere nice and central like Bayswater or Pimlico than live on my ownsome in fricking Kingston upon Thames.
| Being alone is not really a problem. I know several people from SI and have the odd mate here and there. Why avoid OZ/NZ/SA though? I feel there'd be some more rappel and connection with them than say generic Eastern Europeans.
The downside IMO to flat sharing is, that I don't trust random people near my stuff...

I know West London pretty well.
I've worked in Hammersmith, Barons Court, Chiswick and Acton.
What are you looking for in terms of where you want to live?
How far are you willing to commute?
| Job is near Putney (Bridge) looking for a commute of max 30 or so mins. |

and how about this?
Clapham/Balham/Tooting might be ok for you too, yeah. In all honesty,
there are a lot of places that're perfectly good. There are areas I'd
avoid very definitely though, Bethnal Green, Hackney,
Tottenham/Walthamstow. Docklands is shibbicus mas grande though, some
parts of it are really lovely.
Docklands seems a bit far away though...

| Well there is a stereotype that those groups get about ten people in a three bedroomed house and if you ever want peace and quiet...
As for your stuff, yeah I can see how that might be a concern but it just comes back to your gut feeling. Most of the places I've lived in have locks on the bedroom doors anyway.

| They are all LITERALLY miles away from where you are working. Trust me, live within one mile, maybe two. Find some part of Fulham, maybe Chelsea, Parsons Green or Putney, that isn't too expensive. They exist, and you won't spend half your life on public transport. The journey from any of the places above to Fulham would be totally arduous.

people rave about Chiswick, but it does nothing for me.
Putney or Wimbledon probably your best bets... or live somewhere decent in north London and get the fancy new orange line

Wimbledon too far away too.
What I've learnt from nine years here is that being close to work is everything.
