My missus came to work here from Spain, so I can tell you about NHS etc. As a European, you qualify for the same as and english person. Just register with a local doctor and there it is. I think it's all to do with the EU movement of trade which makes it easy for you.

What everyone else is saying - if you want a cheaper place, stick south of the river. Transport isn't so good as north London, but it's made up for by the difference in rent. We're paying about £850pcm without bills for a one bed here in a nice part of north London, which would be much cheaper elsewhere. Location is everything.

I lived in Wimbledon a while ago and it was pretty lovely, easy to get into central plus quite green. Also, reasonably near the M25 to drive out of London too.

Finally, Gumtree is great to find yourself a place. We've let almost exclusively via independent landlords, which will save you a fair few quid in agency fees. You can filter your search for property by size/sharing/area. Property in London moves EXTREMELY quickly. If a nice place is advertised at lunch, they'll have full bookings by 3pm and it'll have gone by 7pm.

Good luck if it all works out

As I said, cheapest in England. Is like £700 and something pounds for a four bedroom house.

If you're looking to rent on your own, then unless you want to live in a box or are going to be earning a good amount, in and around Fulham will be a no go.
Places like Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush will be cheaper but not by a huge amount.

The further out you go, the more expensive it is to get in everyday, so you have to factor that in as well. But then again the rent will be cheaper as will the council tax. But then you'll be further away from the decent bars and places to go out.....

Oh it's so confusing!

Otherwise it is sharing with randoms but at least you have more money in your back pocket and should be closer to work.

Gumtree/ Loot/ Craiglist are all good places to start.

DO NOT GO TO SOUTH OR EAST LONDON!
It is rubbish, smells of wee and has terrible transport links.

Parsons Green is ace. Full of milfs and Danish au-pairs.

You have to dye that hair though, no gingers allowed.

I honestly don't see the point, if you're living by yourself, in having a multi-roomed apartment. All you need is a living/bedroom (works especially awesomely well with a sofa-bed) and if you're a bit flash, seperate kitchen. Obviously an attached bathroom is a must.

Rob and Docker bang on.

North and West London > *

Just checked Wandsworths council tax, it's flipping stupidly cheap for London. It's nearly half mine for the equivalent band.

Once you have NI number and are working and living here you will have the same rights to NHS as anyone else.
