I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week. Today at work I spent a good 50% of my time running to the bathroom to get more toilet paper to wipe my nose. Considering that, I was surprisingly productive.
I then arrived home, passed out asleep for 4 hours and have just woken up feeling utterly awful - chesty cough etc etc.
I've only been in the workforce for about a year (jobs at tesco aside), and have never missed a day yet. But I think tomorrow may have to be it.
So, just how ill does the standard OTFer need to be to miss work? I'd bet there's at least one or two who are ill quite "often".
PS I think I developed this cold because at 5am on Sunday morning my friends and I spent two drunken hours debating whether or not we should go to a strip club. We didn't go :-/

How ill do you need to be to miss a day of work? Post #2
I hadn't had a day off in four years until 3 weeks ago, when i had to be off after having knee surgery.
Always used to drag myself in whatever, although i wonder if i should have done sometimes when i've had severe colds etc, what with the danger of spreading them to other staff.

I have to be unable to get there. I hate missing work, partly because I know that I'll have loads to catch up on when I get back, but also because I know someone else will attempt to do some of my work and won't do it exactly how I want it done.

I was in work the other day and kept coughing and sneezing. Was basically told to go home because others didn't want to catch it. Stayed off the following day as well because I felt worse.

I feel exactly the same way. Hate the job itself, but having others attempt to do my work usually causes more problems later on.
Woke up on Monday morning feeling terrible, even after being sick still thought I would be ok for work. Had to leave the office after spending the majority of my lunch hour being sick
