Have had 2 days off since I started in June. Both caused by a bad cold/flu, although if I'm honest I probably could have struggled through the second day. Then got told to go home another morning a few weeks ago as I'd been sick twice at work in the hour and a half that I'd been there.

It's pretty lenient here though, and I work in an office on my own, so nobody would really notice if I'm not around. So it's very easy for me to just take a day off if I feel rubbish. I try to avoid doing that as much as possible though.

if i can concentrate on my work then i go in.

although you have to weigh up the pros and cons. if the work will just pile up because no one else is capable of doing your job then it may be best to come in or see if you can work from home for a couple of days.
if the work will get done, just at a slower rate it would be more OK to be off sick.

after all you dont want to turn upo for work a few das later to find yourself snowed under with work when you could have come in.

Usually depends on what sort of 'illness' I've got.

I can have pretty massive flu symptoms (mega runny nose, temperature etc) but I'll still go in as I know I'll be able to still do my work.

But every now and again I get deadly migraines. If I sense one coming on I won't go in, as the fact I get annoying white flashes in my eyes basicaly renders me blind, despite the fact at that stage I'm not visibly unable to work.

I need to be just about unable to get out of bed if I'm going to take a day off. Used to be much more slack though.

I get given projects to do so if I take a day off the work just has to be done the next day. Plus I work 2-3 days a week so I never have that real desire to take the day off so I'd need to be incredibly ill not to work. Plus I cycled 2000 miles in a month with a tropical illness so I'm as hard as nails.

I feel you know me too well.

Seriously though, I have never been sick enough to take days off. And I mean never.

I told a few friends this the other day and the reaction I got was similar to when Bruce Willis said it to his wife in Unbreakable. Consternation.

My shoulder has been giving me gyp for months. I suffer it.

I'd rather have real money than SSP.
