I don't think that was Platini, but the UEFA council saying "Naw, we'll do this instead."

In all honesty I'd rather have the 3rd team in Spain/Italy/England make it than the Czech champion. (no disrespect to the Czech but imo the goal should be to allow the best teams in and make the competition as strong as possible)

I would rather watch the Czech champion as I can watch the top Italian/English/Spanish teams every weekend...In fact, they are just showing Reading vs Arsenal now.

1 (or even 2 matches) involve way more luck than a full 38 matches season. If you want the best teams in you try to reduce the luck factor to a minimum.
If you want crazy upsets then qualify as many team as you can and make them go through a PK shoutout, that way you could potentially have a Lorient vs Ljubiana CL final.

The CL is not about being able to watch teams we can't usually watch, the CL is about having the best team in Europe face each other.

With so few spots available for qualifiers, the team finishing fourth in the Premier League will now face a much tougher qualification process.
Much thougher? That depends on the seeding system. Coz can't see how it would be much thougher for one of the big four if they'll meat some (almost)amateur team in the 2nd round
