i hate them too, but to be frank, Apple have managed to drive most of the good companies out of the buisness, buy sealing off the flash\hard drive companies and buy practically brain washing people with their advertising, into getting an 'ipod' cause its cool. Lots of people wouldnt even consider buying something else.

Arguably it is the best option now, purely because there are no other options!

3 to 4 years ago their were companies like iRiver, Cowon and Rio constantly producing much better MP3 players but never got the same amount of interest due to marketing etc, now these companies are concentrating on the far east markets where they are actually appreciated.

Creative and still just copying Apple and adding a few extra features, and not doing much to improve either.

Basically MP3 player market atm is sh!t.

I just use my Sony Ericsson phone. Awesome camera, phone, mp3 player, gmail on the go all in one. Minimalism ftw :thup:

thats what i do atm, since i started work, and i drive to work - have an mp3 cd player in my car, i dont need an mp3 player as much as i used too when I was at uni, so get away with the 1gb in my phone.

Had a 20gb iRiver H320 which was fbbbbb till i broke it by putting the wrong power cable into it

Archos make decent mp3's, however, they're a bit more expensive.

I'm not much of a music person anyway, 512mb for my mp3 player is just fine. Although I may get a bigger card so I can also get a healthy amount of pictures on it also.
