15 minutes by train from the Centre of Amsterdam
I can't recommend this highly enough. Train stops you right outside the station, think the stop is BiljmerArena or something? </BLOCKQUOTE>

Bijlmer Arena it is. About 15 minutes from Centraal Station by train of subway (metro). </BLOCKQUOTE>

I think it was you who directed me to the stop before I went to Amsterdam - thanks a lot for that

Well, at least Utrecht's still better than Amsterdam. Not that I'll be seeing much of it though. Can't wait till next Friday!

i remember going on school trip back in 99, went to the Amsterdam ArenA, turned out that the dutch national team happened to be training there at the same time

Bergkamp was a tool tho, jus walked past us all. Everyone else stopped for photos and autographs

As Reddiablo said basically. Many cities are better than Amsterdam. Some people say that Amsterdam is good because they have never been in Maastricht for example. The only good thing in Amsterdam is that it's the home of the greatest football club, Amsterdam Football Club Ajax.

Oh yes, if you visit Amsterdam Bijlmer, don't forget to see the jail. It was built architecturally well.

You're mad! It's basically the only redeeming quality of the place

For food try "The pancake bakery" which is on Prinsengracht, around the corner from the Anne Frank house. It does over 100 different pancakes and omletes and the are all brilliant.

I enjoyed the Museum quarter, some beautiful buildings as well as the art. Just further round is the heneken museum, which is fine for wasting an hour or so and you get a couple of beers included in the tour. I went into Anne Franks house, which was interesting as was the canal tour we went on, which seemed to concentrate on the architecture.

I spent near a day trying to find the Doors bar (still never found it) and had a lovely meal in a square around Rembrandtplain.

I stayed at Hotel Arena, which is a litle out of the way, but it had a great bar and nightclub and was a beutiful building.
