Goalkeeper Carlo Nash has joined Wigan from Preston on a two-year deal.

The two clubs agreed a fee of £300,000 last week and the 33-year-old has now completed his move to The JJB Stadium after returning from his honeymoon.

Nash was put on the transfer list at the end of last season after falling out with Preston boss Paul Simpson.

The row came about after Nash requested a transfer from Preston in January and openly criticised some of his team-mates.

He spent some time on loan at Wigan towards the end of the season but did not make an appearance for The Latics.

Nash will compete with Chris Kirkland and Mike Pollitt to be first-choice keeper.

"Carlo is a top class keeper and I'm delighted he's decided to join us," Wigan manager Chris Hutchings told the club's official website.

"We got to know him as a person last season, which is always very important, and I think he will fit in here."

Nash added: "I'm delighted to be in the Premier League again, and when I heard about Wigan's interest I really didn't have any other club in mind.

"I enjoyed my time here last season and can't wait to start."

Wigan boss Chris Hutchings has confirmed Frank Barlow's appointment as his assistant.

Barlow arrives at The JJB with a wealth of experience having been in coaching and management for the past 30 years.

A managerial career encompassed spells at Nottingham Forest, Scunthorpe and Chesterfield, while he has been a right-hand man at Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City and Walsall.

Barlow has also accrued experienced as a coach at a number of clubs and Hutchings feels he has all the credentials to be a real asset for Wigan.

"The assistant manager is a crucial role at any football club," Hutchings told the club's official website.

"I am really pleased to bring Frank to the club.

"I have seen other names bandied about in the media, but Frank was always my first choice and I'm absolutely delighted we have got him on board, he will bring in a lot of fresh ideas."
