would of thought Heskey would of been Captain but have a club captain like Skoko or someone who does the press, official functions etc.

Heskey is vice-captain it would seem, but that isnt official, just seems that way from the friendlies we played in Holland
Last season we had -
De Zeeuuw - Team Captain
Baines - Vice Captain
Jackson - Club Captain
Almost like that Yank who took over at Chester for a while about 7 or 8 years ago, managed them, and had defence, midfield and attack captains.

Interesting to see if/who they make club captain because i think its an important thing considering your captain is a new signing, definately have the longest serving player club captain. Not sure who though.
Melchiot good choice though.

definately have the longest serving player club captain.
| That would be Baines then, if/when he goes it would be Pollitt who became our first signing as a Premiership club

Baines the last of our pre-Premiership players then; a bit sad on the turnover we've had.
Melchiot a surprise captain, and Scharner or Landzaat would probably have been my preference, but also like having defenders as captains.
Still need a left winger I reckon.

Oh fugg.
Looks like we beat Blackpool 2-1 tonight with goals from Valencia and Coterill but i'm hearing early reports that their goal came from a shocking Titus Bramble back pass.

The official site has put it diplomatically as "a mix up in defence" Quote:
Blackpool 1 - 2 Latics
Posted on: Wed 25 Jul 2007
Antonio Valencia and David Cotterill provide the goals to win three on the trot in pre-season.
This was the first chance Latics fans had a chance to see Chris Hutchings' new look Latics on English soil as they took on the newly promoted Championship side at Bloomfield Road, and they carried on where they left off after their successful tour of Holland last week by winning again.
Hutchings named a strong line-up with Mario Melchiot captain at right back, and with a new look defensive partnership of Andreas Granqvist and Titus Bramble.
David Cotterill was on the right wing, whilst Paul Scharner and Antonio Valencia were in middle of the park, and the creative Jason Koumas was given a run on the left flank.
Former Wigan midfielder Mike Flynn was given a start by the Tangerines following his summer move from Gillingham.
Latics opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Valencia saw his right-footed shot beat 'Pool goalkeeper Paul Rachubka.
The lead should have been doubled just before the break though, when Julius Aghahowa got onto the end of a Koumas free-kick and hit the crossbar, before the Nigerian hit the rebound, but the 'keeper pushed the ball away to safety.
However, Mike Pollitt made a brilliant save at the other end of the pitch as he denied Keigan Parker.
But the hosts did equalise on 51 minutes when a defensive mix-up led to Ben Burgess netting an equaliser. It was the first goal Latics had conceded during the summer.
Latics restored their lead thirteen minutes later when Cotterill's shot was deflected off Latvian defender Kaspars Gorkks and the ball deceived Rachubka.
Latics: Pollitt, Melchiot, Granqvist (Boyce 58), Bramble (Hall 75), Kilbane, Cotterill, Scharner, Koumas (Baines 58), Valencia, Heskey, Aghahowa (Folan 75).
Unused: Saunders, landzaat, Montrose, Moore, Cywka, Dunne.

MR Whelan has made a statement, he's been a bit quiet recently hasnt he -
"Maurice approached me this morning and offered to retire immediately. I asked him to stay until the end of the season. The F.A. Premier League season is about to start and I could not properly do both jobs. Maurice has been integral to the success of Wigan and his contribution, both here at the Club and to Rugby League in general, will be hard to match.
I also advised Maurice that I had been approached about a possible takeover of the Club. I did not intend to sell but if Maurice has made his mind up to retire then it is probably timely for me to consider my own position here. I will now consider the offer but I am pleased that Maurice will stay until the matter is resolved. I will only release my shares to someone who believes in Wigan as much as Maurice and I do".
---------------------------
Now get out of OUR club Lindsay, and Dave, lob "them lot" out of our ground, thank you

batch - wasn't there some sort of agreement in place that if Wigan Athletic stayed in the Premiership for a period of time (3 years?), then the Wigan Warriors would have to find a new ground?
I'm sure I heard something about it around the time of the Latics promotion. May or may not be true though.
