Four ibuprofen tablets usually do the trick for me, lucky enough to get into the dentists within half an hour for a root canal though the last time I had toothache.

Should still see you sooner. If you say you're in pain they fit you in around other appointments (even if it means the dentist running late as a result).

I had to wait an hour other week for the same reason. Someone came in emergency appointment and all other regular apponitments got shifted back

My sister is a Dental nurse attached to the emergency dentists at A+E. So yes you can.
