I think that Sampras would win vs. Federer. There are no more really good serve and volleyers out there. Hell Roddick should be one of those with his excellent serves, but he stays back instead of finishing off the point with an easy volley. Sampras did that very well and I don't think that he would lose vs. Federer at his peak (he was sh!t on clay and he still reached the QF or SF at Rolland Garros).
I know that Federer did the same, but he's an excellent all around player whereas Sampras was only good on the fast surfaces.

Why has Federer struggled at the French when clay is all about ground strokes, isnt it?

| I'd hardly call the semis "struggling". His dominance on grass is probably due to being able to press his opponent and mix volleys into his game to give him a wider shot selection than he could on clay.

Has Capriati retired now, or is she crocked?

Another impressive win for Andy Murray, that. The other guy was 126 in the rankings iirc, so it's another positive step.
He won't face James Blake in the next round as the American lost to Antony Dupuis of France - a 32 year old 'journeyman' who's world-ranked 111. Greg Rusedski won as well today (in three sets against Uros Vico of Italy) and he and Murray could meet in the quarters if they both progress.

Would be very interesting to see how Murray vs Rusedski falls out if that game were to take place.
Not convinced about him taking on Petchey as a coach - I mean it's good he's got himself a dedicated coach, but Petchey? Not exactly set the world alight as player or coach so far has he?

Well, Gregory has reached the Newport final against Vince Spadia, and will be the first final on the ATP tour to be contested to by two over 30 year olds since 2003.
One more for the road; Come on Greg! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/4667973.stm |

They should make Wimbledon like the courts at these Newport Championships, they're meant to be super fast. Greg would do well on them

A tennis thread
I seem to remember having one before which died quite quickly, hopefully this one can last longer.
