given what gav's said before, i don't think he's denying that it's wrong. pretty sure he's said that he doesn't improve reviews based on what he's been given.
no excuse for docker though, the big ol' thatcherite

How am I living in denial? I've said bribery is the wrong word and I stand by that. You get the gifts alot of the time prior to review, not due to a favourable one. My Crysis freebie being case in point. Bribes kinda useless if you give them regardless of end result. Have never once heard of actual cold hard cash changing hands, as someone else suggested.
| Why do you think they give you the freebies then? If you don’t think it’s as an incentive to give a good review then yes, I’d say that’s denial.
Don’t have that much a problem with it, but at least accept it.

Reviewed seven of EA's offerings this year, with Crysis being the latest, and probably the best I've done for them. They sent me a £150+ 8800 GT with it. My review was basically "it's pretty but it plays just like every other FPS out there. Offers little new. Hardly the groundbreaking game EA have spent a year building up." That's the best I've given them all year. NHL and FIFA got slated for being nothing more than data updates with me urging no-one to buy them, while MMO Hellgate:London was just bile-fueled hatred, with bits about how EA were ruining the gaming market with ideas such as this. Hardly hoping for a good review of Crysis then, given my past entries. The card was sent so that I could crank the graphics up, hoping the "WOW" factor of DX10 rendered trees would sway me.

You have got to be kidding.
"plays like every other FPS". What is that supposed to mean? FPS is a genre. This game is part of that genre.
"Offers little new"..
Except for the nano suit. Which you can choose to go in blazing with amour protection, cloak and sneak around.
Except for the customisable weapons. You can switch between various different upgrades, all of which can give you different ways to fight.
Except for putting vehicle levels into the game. Except for giving the player a zero-g experience.
Except for giving the player multiple ways to approach the various obstacles. You can snipe the people to death, infiltrate and silently take down, ram a truck through the front gate, go guns blazing or a combination of them all.
"Hardly the groundbreaking game etc".
I think the 92 metacritic rating disagrees with you.

Crysis is Farcry 1.5, with tweaks to the FPS genre that have already been done in Thief, Halo, Half Life, F.E.A.R. etc etc.
That said I enjoy it well enough, but Gav is more right than you here.

With the lavish praise that dave has been piling onto Crysis I'm beginning to suspect he is employed by Crytek. Face it mate, it's just another run of the mill FPS game, with really pretty trees, if you own a rig worth a few grand. AI still sucks harder than a Taiwanese prostitute while the physics and collision detection are horrendous most of the time.

| Or all those 8800GT freebies did the job they were supposed to. Last time i looked at a Crysis review online there were an awful lot of 5 and 6 ratings from the public punctuated by 9 and 10 ratings from the fanboys.
