Barton calling anyone vicious is a bit of a pot/kettle senario though

Ceefax - with the Liverpool game, would it be fair to say that most of the booing was directed at the manager for his tactics and use of subs ?

What Barton said might be right - but he's given a get out of jail free card to the players in the side who can't be arsed, IMO. A ready made excuse.

haha, this post nicely demonstrates just how well it's going at newcastle.

Barton hasn't done anything for the club... I wonder what would happen if Alan Shearer or some other legend of your club said this?

The booing wasn't just directed at the manager, no. There was a lot of extremely fickle booing of the players too, for mistakes, poor decisions and hesitation. There were even some incredible moments when cheering of a moment of skill turned instantly to booing when the move ended.

The guy sitting behind me in the pub kind of exemplified it, treating every encouraging move as a sort of acceptable minimum, and becoming exasperated and damning every time something went wrong. His reactions more or less mirrored those of the crowd, because he was an idiot. An attempted threaded pass doesn't quite come off and it's, "F**kin hell man....useless". Just another reminder that this is AGAINST LIVERPOOL.

The period after the first goal was probably the best example. We pushed forward and, for a while before half time, looked like we might be able to break through if we kept it up. The crowd during those few minutes were as fickle as you like - we'd push forward, the crowd would get behind the side but all that support would evaporate as soon as we made a mistake or lost the ball. Liverpool were defending very deep at this point, so we were trying to pass the ball through a compact back 8, but that seemed lost on the crowd who expected us to be able to take the game by the scruff of the neck. It's not quite that simple.

The players can't be arsed? Are you joking? That's not what I saw. They were playing in an unfamiliar lineup against a superior, settled side and were made to look suitably ordinary. All the fight in the world wouldn't have changed anything, except probably that Emre would've been sent off. Any chance we did stand of getting into the game probably vanished when our rubbish fans effectively started supporting Liverpool.

Reminds me of last week when I was in a pub watching the Liverpool Newcastle game. The Liverpool third goal involved about 12 passes. Pool fans in front of me were bemoaning the passes weren't going forward at the start of the move.

Fans generally idiots really.

Agree with everything but the 'Settled side' bit.

They were playing Liverpool apparently.

I know, I know, rotation etc. But tell me Liverpool aren't extremely organised and settled into a style of play despite that.

You really think Shearer will come out and say that? He's one of the mugs who think that the Newcastle fans are the best in the world and that they have every right to demand what they do.

Either that or he's one of the many who understand that the fans are morons and you have to be nice to them no matter what.
