Heh. Yeah, no need to get one yet Herms! You've got the most important piece of kit in a decent pair of shoes. Well worth keeping a rough log on Fetch (Bagpuss' link above) though. It's even got a page using Google Maps you can use to work out the distance of your runs.

Ah, a link to maps very useful
I shall start that tonight. Running mate says he's measured this one and it's 10k, but I'll try and memorise the run and also check.
Appreciate all the help fellas. It's odd as it's "just" running, but there is a fair bit of prep and technique behing it.

I gave BBB a booklet called incremental running which is basically you set yourself a challenge like running a specified distance ie how ever far it is from your place to LOndon say and then you basically decide how long it will take you reach that target at your current state of running.
IE for me London is about 250 miles away and i run about 25 miles a week on average. Therefore i'd expect to reach 250 miles in tital in 10 weeks time. You then simply keep track of how far you run and whether you are on target or not to meet the distance.

I think the current retail price for a Garmin 305 Forerunner is about £225-250 but you can get ones off ebay for £150-175 roughly.

Yeah, think mine were normally £80 or something but were in a sale. They are great though. I'm generally a very sceptical person about things, but there is no doubt they have made a large difference.

Good shoes should be the first thing any runner gets.
