Tbf Herman, I've done the whole no money thing before, but I'm now in a place financially where money just isn't much of a problem. Think of how much you spend over the course of a year on games, movies and concerts/festivals? How many games systems do you own atm? I don't do any of that, almost every spare penny I have is spent on my son. I fought tooth and claw for him, to have him, and if I want to spoil him a bit at Christmas, which for me at least is all about the kids, then where's the harm?
Brandon far from spoiled, he hears no often enough in the course of a day. Ask the other folks with a family what they expect their total Christmas spending to be, compare it to mines. Obly difference is I'm only buying for one. Not as is I'm driving myself into debt for it.

It's not about whether you can afford it or not, or what your total expense is. The difference that your spending it all on one person is the important thing, but yeah, it's jsut my opinion that £500 on a 6yr old if repeated throughout their life is likely to cause them to be come 'a spolied brat'.
It's understandable after what you've been through that you want to spoil him rotten, but that is the phrase for a reason is all. At 6 it might not really make that much difference, but as he gets older you might want to tone it down, maybe put some of the money into an account for him for uni? (you mgiht be doing this already of course).
This isn't meant as an attacking post by the way, and I'm sure you've thought about it all. In your position I'd probably feel it hard to resist as well (though he wouldnt get to choose his toys, he gets Star Wars and that's it), just be careful is all.

Tbf, if he hadn't picked out the Wii a few months back then he'd just get the other stuff I linked to, which isn't really all that extravagant. The Wii and it's various bits and bobs drove the total way higher than normal. Just the cost of the next generation.

Fair play mate, you get your kid what he deserves.
The Wii especially is a great purchase as that is less of a 6 year old fad thing (like Power Rangers) and is something he will use over the course of a few years, next Christmas might be a bit cheaper for you.
If you can spoil em at Christmas do it! The look on my lads face Christmas morning is brilliant!

| Tbf I own one next gen console, trade all my games or ebay to fund new purchases, and am an evil tout for gig tickets and buy two and flog one to pay for my travel
I take your point. Just that when I was spending stupidly in my earlier years, I'd still spend nowhere near that on presents for people. Even with gf's etc. Just wouldn't occur to me to do it.
