Should the 4th official have a say in decisions during matches? Post #31 | | Registered User

I agree that the fourth official should be able to help if it is something he sees and the ref misses. Even if it is from a tv screen he should be able to instruct the ref. Why should player get away with, for example, headbutting until a review panel is assembled? Why shouldn't the fourth official be able to see it on a screen and get the info to the ref, resulting in instant punishment.
To be fair, I'm supportive of everything that gets violent play out of games, and not least simulation. I think it should be punishable by a red card if blatant enough. For example Evra against.. Sporting? Shocking dive, should get a game off. And this comes from a United fan, I just hate seeing player go down with no contact! Step forward Gunners...

Would be staggeringly easy to get rid of simulation from games. Just get someone to go through the video after the game and everyone diving, going down too easily etc gets a ban. For each one. So, 4 dives in one match = 4 match ban.
I've said it a ton of times before.
Also unbelievably easy to get rid of players harranguing the referee. Doesn't happen in rugby, has been allowed to happen in football. The football authorities don't want to stop it.

Just ban Chelsea, referee harassment goes down 73% (and that's for the whole world of football..)
And yes, it should be easy to get simulation out of football but it would have to be only for blatant simulation, it's impossible to tell if a player went down a bit too easy. I would say, for example, that Ronaldo often goes down too easy, however it is hard to tell as he is so quick and it takes little to unbalance a player who is going flat out.
Then again, I think fouls against him aren't awarded half as often as they should be and it is getting a bit disgraceful to see what defenders can get away with just because he has a reputation.

| Bullcrap. A lot of the time it's very easy to tell when players have gone down too easily. Watch an Andy Gray postmatch analysis and see him use the cuntspeak that he's developed to pretend that players aren't cheating: "there was definite contact" "he's entitled to go down".
Here are some of the signs that we could ban players for: contact is on upper body, yet player falls in direction of it; player clutching part of body different to where contact has occured; player managing to be applealing for foul before even hitting the ground; player rolling more than once after hitting ground.
It can sometimes be easy to unbalance an athlete going flat out. If you want to see what it looks like when that happens, a Rugby League or American Football game will show you. Compare that to footballers taking the same contact in the same place.

And I shouldn't really have to point out the irony of a Man United fan claiming that Chelsea are primarily responsible for the harrassment of referees...

| Did you read what I wrote or just see what you wanted? I'm not talking about when players put on a whole damn show after contact or go all Rivaldo. I'm talking about instances where players are touched, when it isn't clear whether they went down because of that touch or whether they just plain went down. Try telling me that it's always clear as daylight and keep a straight face. It can be bloody well impossible.
And yes, Chelsea are primarily responsible for the most blatant referee harassment, United are nothing like what they used to be a few years back. And I can't really recall a united player slapping a ref a la Terry...

There are far more glaringly clear candidates to hate so vehemently imo... </BLOCKQUOTE>
Agree, starting with the entire arsenal team a couple of years back. Prime hate material </BLOCKQUOTE> |

Although I must admit Pires had me laughing my behind off once. Playing against United he was fouled by the sideline, landed on his back just outside the pitch. He then took a look at where he was and rolled onto the pitch to be injured Just fabulous!
