the real question is should the 4th official be allowed to look at the monitor and then make a decision.

| could take too much time (apparently).
besides all the fa's are dead against it for some reason, probably because it would mean they could no longer take bribes to favour one team or the other.

Why would the referee ask the fourth official, the fourth official is standing over by the dugouts and it's been well established that it's not possible to have a clear view of any incidents from over there?

| The fact that they have about 8 monitors that give you a replay almost instantly may give them a slight advantage tbf...

However if he has seen an incident like Dowd did yesterday it should be his decision and his alone. Don't think it would work if they both have an opinion on the same incident as if hey differ then who is right, there cannot be a long debate about the decision during the match so the ref on the pitch has to judge how he sees it even if he might get it wrong. But he should still have the option if he has not seen an incident at all or very clearly.
| It doesn't (and shouldn't) matter if the ref saw the incident or not. The 4th official should be allowed to alert and advise just as the linesmen can. Though of course it will be the ref's decision in the end, he is the only one allowed to make decisions and/or dish out cards.

| That's BS though. Quite a big part of the pitch that he has an excellent view of.

Shouldnt need to ask the him, should have enough help with the linesman, I dont think linesman help the ref in enough in general, there was an incident yesterday when either Lennon or Chimbonda was clearly fouled right at the feet of the linesman and he didnt even flag for it.
