I'm 23 and have liked punk for about 8 years and feel old too Unlike you I do still like finding new bands and stuff though...
More people should listen to Screeching Weasel though I agree, you also seem to be right about Rancid, Op Ivy and NOFX, should post in here more!
Any examples of the english bands trying to be American/not being very good? Just be interested like...

| And to think I voted for you in the BOTU
Colorado, my favourite compliation is the Fat Wreck Chords - Unctrollable Fatulence one. Has some of my favourite songs from fat bands and has a great variety of bands.
Need to check out BTMI, their free music thing is very commendable, Defiance,Ohio do a similar thing and all their stuff is available for download. They're folk/punk btw.

BTMI ? Is that thier name or is it shortened?
Some of the Swingin Utters stuff borders on folk at times, they've done some excellent stuff.
Why don't Fat put out comps any more other than those Floyd sampler things? It was years since the last one!

I used to really love ska/punk but find it a bit 'overdone' these days. I do like listening to trad stuff, I really recommend the Slackers to anyone interested in hearing some more mature/traditional sound ska. I'm also not too fussed on UK bands these days, they often just seem to be trying to be too American if that makes sense. I think they should just try and be themselves.
| I suggest listening to Gallows  UK hardcore/punk band and very, very good their myspace page  their debut album Orchestra Of Wolves is being re-released in this country and released in the US soon, highly recommended

| I dunno really mate, the English bands Fat Wreck brought out like Snuff, Consumed and Goober Patrol do have an English sort out sound. They spent alot getting Snuff to reform a few years back, and it was Snuff who got the other two onto FAT. Fat Mike really has a liking for that sound if you know what I mean.
Other than that most of the bands sound Americanised. Maybe it's because the bands they've listened to are all American but doesn't need to be completely influnced by that sound. Someone mentioned Captain Everything earlier, I have one of their albums somewhere from a few years back (Learn to Play ??) but even though their great sounding they borrow too much from the US punk sound which is already been done. That somes it up imo.
