I'm just having some difficulty in trying to establish which rating is the most important from "Current Ability" and "Best Rating" (this is on a scouting programme such as Genie Scout by the way) and the same problem with deciding whether to buy someone who has a higher "Potential Ability" or higher "Best Potential Rating" percentage.
For example: Which player is better:
Player A: Current Ability 150 Best Rating 80%
Player B: Current Ability 180 Best Rating 70%
I would have thought that a player with a higher CA would have a higher best rating but this is seldom the case :S
CA is the measure of the player's overall greatness, and as such is divided between all his skills, even those he doesn't really need (tackling with strikers).
Genie Scout's rating is calculated according to the skills most needed for the position, and therefore it's a much better measure of how good a player is in his position. Higher CA can be re-focused into better rating, but keep in mind that any stat can't be raised by more than 2 points per season.
Then is CA Relatively more important for a very young player (15-17) than an older player (18+), as you have a greater chance of retraining him so that his skills are more appropriate to his position.
It depends. If you are looking for a new CB then search all players and create a column of CB rating and then sort them by that. The higher the CB rating the better they play at CB. On the other hand CA is how good they are overall. I recommend signing the player with a higher rating in the position you want to play him instead of looking at the CA. But also your tactic depends how good a player will be in that position. that is why you can edit the player ratings because in your tactic your CB might be involved in a lot of passing so you would edit the CB rating to give passing a greater value. This is done from the menu bar.
As for potential I do the opposite to current. I only look at the PA and not the potential rating because that is not very accurate and it is just making assumptions at how good a player will be in each attribute when they reach theit PA
