Lillestrøm SK justified their favourites' billing to defeat 1. Division FK Haugesund 2-0 in the Norwegian Cup final and claim their first silverware since their league championship success in 1989.
Occean on target
Canadian forward Olivier Occean opened the scoring with a crisp shot on 57 minutes and then completed the scoring with a headed goal in added time. Lillestrøm coach Tom Nordlie said: "This is a big day for us. The season hadn't gone according to plan in the league, so to win the cup is some compensation. After creating the most chances, I felt we deserved the win."
UEFA Cup
The victory ends a run of cup final defeats, with Lillestrøm having lost the showpiece fixture in 1986, 1992 and 2005 following their last success in 1985. Their reward is a place in the UEFA Cup next season. Haugesund coach Rune Skarsfjord said: "Lillestrøm are a better side than us, and they showed it here. I can't complain about anything. My players gave their all."
