Kalmar FF booked themselves a place in the qualifying rounds of next season's UEFA Cup as they defeated Allsvenskan leaders IFK Göteborg 3-0 to win the Swedish Cup.
Long wait
At their own Fredriksskans ground, Kalmar claimed the trophy 20 years after their last triumph and were put on their way 22 minutes in as in-form Brazilian Cesar Santin calmly slotted the ball in. Leading by just the one goal going into the break, Kalmar found themselves under pressure early in the second period and Jonas Wallerstedt chipped just over for Göteborg. Having survived that scare they doubled the lead on 65 minutes however as Patrik Ingelsten forced the ball in and two minutes from time Santin got his second from the penalty spot after a foul on Ingelsten.
Bergstrand delight
"We played a very good tactical game and proved too much for Göteborg to handle tonight. I know they had a derby game on Monday [against GAIS Göteborg], but even if they hadn't played for a month would they have beaten us today?" said Kalmar coach Nanne Bergstrand. Meanwhile his opposite number, Göteborg coach Stefan Rehn admitted his side were second best saying: "We looked off pace today, but full credit to Kalmar who played well and took their chances as well as making it hard for us."

Meanwhile in Finland Tampere United beat Haka 2-1 with Antti Pohja's injury time goal. TamU are now 7 points a drift with 5 games still remaining in the season.

4 points between 1st and 7th in Sweden atm, with 4 games left. Everybody losing to everybody really After 5 games I think every single team had the chance to go top after the 6th, ridiculously even season.
IFK are having an awesome season really. After having lost a lot of good players in recent years and for the most part replaced them with academy players (A 15 year old started a few weeks ago) we've still played really really well. And especially the loss of Marcus Berg, who had 14 goals in 16 or 17 games I think, in the middle of the season. But that worked as well, essentially moving a "lawnmower" type of defensive midfielder up front, who then turns out to be awesome up front.
