The others said the same thing when I asked them this question.
Is there any way to improve this competition?
more money
or a spot in the ChL for the winner, that would get them off their fat buts for sure </BLOCKQUOTE>
I doubt UEFA would like to give them a spot, although that would be fair enough. At least, it would reduce the bias towards the "big leagues" in the CL. </BLOCKQUOTE>
well, I think they should just close it down

Agree there, Nørbæk. It seems like nobody likes the tournament anyway. It was ok to try the idea, but after the 1st 3 seasons they should just decide that that's it and finish with the tournament

I really don't see the point in the royal league, never have.
For the swedish and norwegan teams it stretches the season in to a time when all the pitches are unplayable and the players need a break, fir the danish teams it comes in the middle of the season so the aren't focused. It is a glorified friendlies tournament and the teams doesn't care and neither does the fans (IIRC it was dropped from TV in sweden too).
A big NO to the idea of giving it a CL (or UEFA) spot too. Not worth it, in any way. And also UEFA won't allow it as it is a mix of different FA's (kind of the Cardiff situation).

Typical Hammarby supporter. I don't really care that much, but it is sooooo cool to be at Söderstadion with all the fantastic fans (Which we all know are a lie anyway)
No I really don't care... I haven't been to Söderstadion or any other Allsvenskan arena either for that sake, I could barely name all that teams in Allsvenskan and I might know who the top 3 are atm.
But I have Botkyrka on my birthcertificate so I just go with flow of the relatives on this. Fairly "meh" about the other teams too apart from gnaget that you just have to shun... (of my 2 best mates one support AIK and the other Djurgården, we used to such funny nights playing CM at their place ) </BLOCKQUOTE>
Oh, I see... So you are just born in Botkyrka? Where do you live now?
From what I can see from other threads you seem to know a lot about swedish football, so I kind of thought that you would be a regular watcher of allsvenskan, and also a supporter of some team.
And can we please not talk about A. Johansson in this thread. I'm so gutted that he chosed a mid table side in denmark instead of coming "home" He would have been the difference-maker for us in the 2nd half of the season... But money talks, and the special tax for foreign players in denmark plays a huge part.
Soon our whole U21 team will play in denmark too. Only this season, Sjöhage, Åhman-Persson and Pode have left. It's not good for allsvenskan...

And about Royal League... I think it's a brilliant setup in theory. But the thing is that our climate isn't stable enough to having football played at that time of the year. I have been freezing in the stands, when Djurgården have played in RL, and I must say that I was mostly hoping for the game to finish most of the time.

I live an hour away from Lerkendal, Rosenborgs stadium and I go to see matches every now and then.
And you just see how hopeless it is, when they played a match in -5 degrees...
Even worse up in Tromsø when they played in the Royal League, you could barely see the ball for all the snow, kinda like when they knocked out Chelsea up there.

Currently working for a company in London that's working for Statoil on the Mongstad site, developing a CO2 Capture system for all the exhaust gases etc. from the existing equipment there I hear there's a fair bit of press about it over in Norway?
last place I expected to see mention of Statoil was on OTF \o/ and unfortunately I have no real addition to this thread because I haven't ever had the time to follow football regualarly in Scandinavia

It says a lot about the state of football pitches when Tromsö is able to play in the middle of the winter while clubs in the most southern part in Sweden can't play on their home arena.
As for the failure of Royal League, I think here in Sweden the reasons are:
1. Media were very negative from the start.
2. Players, managers and clubs has whined nonstop about the bad pitches (when they otherwise would have played friendlies instead)
3. The domestic cup here in Sweden has no status either. If two top tier teams play each other in the cup, it's likely to attract about 1/4 of the audience if they played the match in the league.
4. Swedish TV showing the wrong matches focusing more on the Danish/Norwegian big teams instead of showing the biggest Swedish teams. IIRC Kalmar (quite good but really is a quite small club) vs Bröndby was shown instead of showing Djurgården playing IFK Göteborg (two big Swedish clubs)
PMLF, the problem with March to November is that Swedish teams whine excessively if they have to play two matches each week despite being fulltime professionals. :thdn:
Andy Jordan, Charlie Davies would sofar probably be chosen as flop of the season. He has a reputation as a tremendous goal squanderer and opponent team fans were disappointed when he had to leave for Copa America because they thought that strengthened Hammarby (his team). He has now been dropped to the bench too.

I think the idea was to keep the teams ready for the second half of the European tournaments.
Why Denmark agreed, I have no idea, as we haven't managed to keep a team in Europe pas x-mas since Brøndby reached the UEFA Cup semi back in the early 90's (was 1991?)
