It would be tricky because you might have to pay to maintain the mother but you wouldn’t need to pay towards the child’s upbringing.

Hypothetical situation would be where the married couple agree for the woman to give up her job to look after the child while the husband carries on at work.

5 years down the line when they split he’ll have gained promotions / pay rises etc. while she can’t go back to her old job for whatever reasons. He might end up having to subsidise her loss of earnings because it was a joint decision.

This would only apply to her loss of earnings and not the upbringing of the child, which would fall under the responsibility of the real dad.

Best I can find is that you're liable to pay for adopted children, but not usually for step-children.

If there were cases where non-fathers were being paid to force for random kids linkage would be the easiest thing to find in the world. Any of the "Daily Scare Men and General Pussies" style newspapers would have to front to back.
