"Semester" so I'm assuming University. Could just be going through some changes and finding a bit more about himself really. Let him know you're there if he wants to talk about anything, then let him get on with whatever stuff he needs to do.

As long as you let him know you’re there for him if/when he needs you then that’s all you can do atm. If he does have a problem then he needs to register that himself before anyone can help him.
