Utterly dyer game last night and bar the excellent goal it was not a good advert for conference football. Thought last night might be when people stand up and be accounted for but it was really the worst Ive seen woking play for a while. Tbf to Ebbsfleet they should have had atleast a draw. No way was their goal offside (shame the linesman couldnt keep up). quite confused by Grays post match comment too:
Quote:
Woking manager Frank Gray was delighted to have ended a barren spell of eight league games without a victory.
“We knew it was going to be a tough, physical battle and we knew we were going to have to stand up. That was three important points tonight.
“I thought our two centre backs were excellent tonight, they handled everything really well.
“We defended well but, on saying that, I thought we had the two best chances of the second half.
“It’s a good win, it’s good for confidence. We’d like to create more chances but as I say I think we created the two best chances in the second half tonight.”
Defence was severely lacking without Hutchinson. and should have cost us the game. It wasnt a good win at all and if The Fleet converted their chance we could have lost Heavily.
Final comment. Sole was awful last night, must have been caught offside at least a dozen times which squandered the few hints of decent football we showed last night.

You won't be surprised Will to hear that I disagree with pretty much everything you've said.
It was one of our better performances of the last couple of months imo. The first half we were poor bar the goal but when the game became much more stretched in the second half I thought we looked dangerous - the only problem was the lino's flag.
Also thought Sole played much better than in recent games - worked hard and provided a decent outlet.
Hopefully Frank realises that playing 4-4-2 we actually get near the opponents goal and continue with it.

Salisbury v Aldershot tomorrow. Dont think we will get much against the league leaders. It has been moved to a ****ty 7.15pm kick off because it's on Setanta TV.

yeah he has apparently, he was only with us on a monthly contract and davenport decided not to keep on the books.
he had been with us before when liam watson was in charge and was 'ok' nothing amazing though. his most recent spell we rarely saw him came on three times as sub i think scored twice as an emergency striker though, so if you're in need of a goal stick him upfront!

What game were you watching? We're in serious trouble. Our tactics were purely hit the ball up the field wait for the fleet to pile on the pressure. rinse and repeat. Sole had the right idea yes, but as i said before was caught offside atleast a dozen times which is unacceptable, surely you noticed this? I agree with the lino, but most the time it was soles fault.
Bunce did sweet fack all as captain, was quiet as a mouse and never rallied the troops.
Good:
Gindre
Pattison
Bad:
The refusal to keep the ball on the ground
Sole
Atleast we'll be on Question of Sport at some point with that unfortunate goal kick by Gindre!

Agree that we were poor - we needed to win ugly and we did that, and we'll be better once Marum and Morgan are back in the side upfront.
I don't agree that the defence was lacking - I thought Ruby and Gasson were excellent all night, but Maledon was caught out a couple of times - not surprising given he's a central midfielder playing at right back, despite the fact Matt Gray was sitting on the bench. I think Hutch is a great defender, but Ruby has certainly stood up and been counted when he's had the chance, and would be tempted to give him a run.
Ruby, Gasson, Gindre and Pattison played well. Sole and Gatting toiled upfront but got little service, and when they did they were being caught offside with their runs. Quamina and James were poor, as was Maledon but he should be playing ahead of Quamina in the midfield.
Overall we had to win and we did. Hopefully it will give us the confidence to get back to how we were playing earlier in the season with a tough month ahead.

Morpeth Town are known as the Highwaymen, but this was no smash and grab. I wasn't at the match but apparently we never came out for the second half and were always under the cosh.
Our 'home' form is worrying as we've only picked up 4 points from 8 games (5 of those currently occupy the bottom half and 3 are below us). Sort that out and we'd be comfortably mid-table imo.
