Stevenage Borough confirm that they’ve agreed terms with defender Mark Arber to join on August 1 from Peterborough United. The 29-year-old centre half has made over 400 appearances in a Football League career spanning nine years.
Chairman Phil Wallace said: “Mark is a great signing for us. If there was one thing we possibly lacked at times last season, it was experience at the back. Mark has made over 400 appearances with Barnet, Oldham and Peterborough and over 100 of them have been for Peterborough in the last two and a half seasons. He’s therefore been pretty much an ever present under a few different managers, which is always a sign of a players importance to a team. The search is now focused on a quality striker to add to the squad.”
Experience is what we need

Am I right in thinking the FA Cup draws are tomorrow?
This season I will be mostly watching Wingate & Finchley, plus Hendon again if they stay put at Claremont Road. Starting next Saturday though, with Mildenhall Town v Cambridge United.
Trying to hit 100 games this year

Looks like we're probably at least starting the season at Claremont Road. As always, it's out of our hands though.

I'll be partaking in this thread during the next season - I'll hopefully be attending a few Blyth Spartans games, with me no longer going to Newcastle matches.
Anyhoo - Blyth's pre-season games;
Saturday 14th July DURHAM (A)
Friday 20th July TONBRIDGE ANGLES (H)
Sunday 22nd July EMMERDALE ALL STARS (H)
Saturday 28th July BERWICK RANGERS (H)
Saturday 4th August STOKESLEY SPORTS (A)
-----------------
Incase anyone asks, the game against The Emmerdale Allstars is a match that has been running for a few seasons now. It's pretty much just a laugh and to raise a few quid for local charities.
Blyth are also hoping that mananger Harry Dunn is going to sign a new 2 year deal in the next week. Will be good when he puts pen to paper as he's worked wonders with the team in the last 2 and a bit years.

So far only two new signings which hardly inspire confidence, Terry Smith a young goalie we had on-loan at the back end of last season from Oldham and Neil Prince from Staly, potentially a top signing although he's had something like 9 clubs in the past 5 years.
Hopefully Davenport will have some more signings up his sleave, i'm not hopeful though for this season.

We've just put our ticket price up to £15, must make it the second highest in the Conference. If it brings more money in, it will be a good thing, if it drives people away it'll be bad. Need a better season this time around, a new midfielder and owner wouldn't go amiss either.
The price won't affect me too much, can't go to as many games as I'm trying to afford a new house, plus when petrol for the trip is over £40, £2 isn't much.

Why no N'castle?

Getting too expensive (for a s/t) and I wasn't really enjoying it anymore. Not just with Newcastle, but top-flight football in general. I'm heading back to grass-roots to see if I can start enjoying it again.
