Darren Bent has turned down a move to West Ham United, Charlton confirmed on Thursday night.

The two clubs had agreed a fee for the 23-year-old England international, who has top scored for Charlton for the past two Premiership campaigns.

But after negotiations with the Hammers, the striker has rejected a switch to Upton Park and the chance to be reunited with the man who brought him to The Valley in August 2004, current Hammers boss Alan Curbishley.
Charlton chief executive Peter Varney said: "We set a valuation for Darren and West Ham were the only club prepared to meet that valuation.

"This morning we gave them permission to speak to Darren, which he did, and he has decided not to join West Ham.

"We therefore look forward to Darren starting with us in the Championship next season, which is a massive boost to our chance of returning to the Premier League.”

If Varney will accept no less than the valuation they've set on him. I can't see Spurs spending that much. West Ham was the only real option for that sort of money.

West Ham was probably quite a big offer...

Depends if Spurs offer what WH did. If not then we shouldn't accept tbh.

With Darren in the team he'll get the goals to get us up, I'm certain of that. So thats a £50m reward.

All down to Spurs now...we'll see.

Well that was covered in the 'Charlton are a more appealing club overall' part of my reply...but it's true, we've been going nowhere for two years, whereas you've just dropped a division!

As for Charlton being fools...Well you appointed Iain Dowie, a poor manager, and then you followed that up with Les Reed... So maybe Varney on £20k a week is just par for you lot just recently?

Peter Grant being a '****' manager...what are you basing that on? Just over half a season with a poor, paper thin squad, horrific injuries and having the best striker in the division out for over 3 months? Makes sense

Rennes confirm their Rommedahl interest

I can't believe that when they mention Murphy. Surely he won't return to us AND play in the Championship? Would be good there but have to have at least one good defensive midfielder next to him.

Harewood, Mullins and Sahar all mentioned in the last few days, would be decent signings if we really are after them.

I saw Darren Bent Today

Was driving in the car park of Asda in Charlton, had such a nice car, and some fit mixed race girl in the front with him.

Such a legend
