Have watched a couple of films over the past couple of nights, which have different takes on the english legend of King Arthur.
Arthur is/was a mystical figure from the dark ages of Britain. He could have existed anywhere between AD-150 right up to just before the Viking invasion of 900AD+. Much of what is said about him is folklore and yet he has a huge part in english history. The appeal is the mysticism that the story has and why it endures to this day.
For the record, the two films that I watched were John Boorman's Excalibur, which is an ahistorical take on the story. The 2nd was the more recent The Last Legion which was OK, if a bit rushed. King Arthur from 2004 is also worth a look.
So - did such a man exist, or is the legend up there with that of Atlantis ?
oh and it had almost nothing to do with king arthur, the only connection was the sword and even though it was probably intended almost from the start, the way they just shoehorned it in at the end seemed very forced
