I'm in the same boat as you AR. Jobs and careers are the "buzz" words.
Although I don't graduate til' summer '09, We have to do a 10 week placement this summer.
I see you're doing Enivronmental Science, never thought of doing Environmental Engineering type stuff? Quite interesting although my Civil Engineering degree leads me more towards structural engineering rather than Environmental.
Absolutely petrified and thrilled at the same time about whats in store for me.
I'm cruising towards a 2:1, I'm the proverbial team on the last day of the season with nothing to play for.
Don't want to work for one of the big firms and ideally I'll have my own business. Think I'll emigrate though, which makes it very difficult to get a graduate job.
On the assumption I don't start my own firm straight away, I'd like to work for a progressive small firm - really interested in online businesses and new media, marketing, that kind of thing.
I get kind of embarrassed when I think what I'd really like to do is work in football somehow - it's the only thing I really know inside out.

@Ned: I was thinking of one of those jobs. Hows the pay, environment , expectations and such, any idea?
Pay for me has started at £22k basic plus bonuses. Football traders tend to earn between £10k and £20k in bonuses each year, so it's a significant part of what you earn. Amount you get varies according to individual performance. The decisions you make have a very large bearing on how much money you make the company in matches, so it's quite pressurised. Great fun place to work though.
2:1 Media Production - Specializing in New Media & Photography, graduated in 2002.
Now a web designer.
All I remember my lecturers telling me was:
"If you don't get a 2:1 just lie. Tell them you did anyway, as they never check."
And as far as I'm concerned they're right. In all my jobs since university the emplyer has never once asked for proof of any kind for all qualifications...
Probably wouldn't risk it if the job demanded a 1st class degree, but anything else seems fair game.

I boosted my a Level D up to a C for a lot of course applications (not through UCAS) and got away with it Not sure I'd have the balls to do it with degree classification tbh

I do a vocational degree. I don't think I could have got through uni not knowing where I was wanting to get, I get far too stressed out by all this getting a job talk
It's not very helpful not knowing. Never having a clue meant I based my GCSE and A-Level choices on being broad and open-ended. During sixth form decided I wanted to pursue a career in law. Put a lot of effort into getting a bit of experience and shadowing some solicitors and the CPS and stuff. Got accepted to do Law at Bristol but messed up A-Levels so I didn't get in, so the Law opportunity has passed. If I was doing a Law degree, I'd know exactly where I was going.
Now I'm just motivated by the fear of ending up with nothing. And only just now too - because the end is in sight. If I can find something that really inspires me soon, and put some applications in, I think that'll really help motivation-wise.

I've never really looked into it, as I've just kind of assumed I wouldn't be interested. It's something I'll be researching over the next week or so though, even if only to rule it out.
