quote:
Originally posted by Glenn:
Motherwell midfielder James McFadden is another definite target for Coventry as he is quoted in a Sunday newspaper saying as much. City's interest in McFadden is not suprising for several reasons
a) he would solve Coventry's problem left-sided problem
b) He is cheap due to the fact Motherwell are in administration
c) Eric Black and his Motherwell inside knowledge
McFadden has only come to the fore in the last 6 months scoring 9 goals in a struggling Motherwell team but is in the Scotland squad that Bertie Vogts took the Far East and one of the bright young talents in Scottish football. However other clubs such as Bolton have been rumoured to be interested.

Sam Allardyce says that he has never heard of him (hard to believe, but if he says so, could be bluffing though) and has no intentions of signing him, just thought you'd like to know.

From Cov Evening Telegraph
Gary McAllister has gone back to his former club in a bid to bolster Coventry City's squad.
The Sky Blues boss is hoping to sign Motherwell's attacking midfielder/striker James McFadden and French defender Eric Deloumeaux.
Both come highly recommended by City No.2 Eric Black who managed the pair in the Scottish Premier League last season.
Although only 19, McFadden recently earned his first cap for Scotland and last season was joint top scorer for his cash-strapped club, which is in administration and looking to sell to balance the books.
Deloumeaux, meanwhile, has been put on the transfer list after refusing to take a pay cut. The 28-year-old, who can play at centre-half or right-back, cost £100,000 from Le Harve last November and the club's administrators are believed to be looking to get their money back on the player.
"Eric Black has got a lot of contacts in Scotland and we will be using them as much as we can," said McAllister.
"I have already spoken to Eric about James McFadden for whom he has a high opinion and I like what I have seen of him myself.
"We are continuing to talk to Eric Deloumeaux."
He added: "I know all about Motherwell's predicament and as a former player of the club it saddens me to see them in their current state.
"However, we would probably be able to get McFadden pretty cheaply - cheaper than what he's worth anyway - but Coventry's financial position is similar to Motherwell's in that we don't have much money to buy players and the budget only allows me to pay players the going rate."

Coventry City Football Club can confirm it has NOT sold goalkeeper Magnus Hedman to Spanish club Espanyol - despite reports in this morning's press to the contrary.
Stories in two national newspapers stated that the Swedish international was on his way to the Barcelona outfit for £600,000 and £1-million respectively.
But City officials have stressed this is not the case - although they confirmed they have had preliminary talks with the Spanish club.
"We met with a representative of Espanyol, who made a derisory offer for Magnus," said Chief Executive Graham Hover.
"They initially wanted to take him on loan with a view to a permanent move, but we have stressed this is not acceptable.
"We underlined from the start that we would not be prepared to accept less than the true value of any Coventry City player and we stand by that.
"If Espanyol come back with a suitable offer, we will be prepared to talk to them.
"But until then, Magnus Hedman will remain at Coventry City."

Coventry City Football Club has appointed former England custodian Alan Hodgkinson as its new goalkeeping coach.
Hodgkinson takes over from Steve Ogrizovic, who fulfilled the role on a part-time basis following the departure of Jim Blyth early last season. Ogrizovic is now the Sky Blues’ Academy Director.
Capped five times for England and a member of the squad that travelled to the World Cup in 1958 and 1962, Hodgkinson spent much of his playing career at Sheffield United, where he made over 675 appearances.
He was more recently employed as the Scotland goalkeeping coach – working with the national set-up
