Gordon signs for City Jun 7 2002

Released Middlesbrough defender Dean Gordon has agreed a two-year deal with The Sky Blues, beginning on August 1.

City boss Gary McAllister swooped for the former England Under-21 defender after he became available on a free transfer, with the signing representing McAllister's first purchase as a manager.

He said: "Dean is a vastly-experienced defender and will be a valuable addition to the Coventry City squad.

"With the departures of Hall, Edworthy and Breen, it was obvious that defence was an area I had to strengthen.

"I have no doubt that Dean will help to do that. He is a sound defender but is also very dangerous going forward."

Gary McAllister has made his second signing for the Sky Blues, confirming the long-predicted arrival at Highfield Road of Scotland international defender Gary Caldwell.

The 20-year-old, who has won four caps so far, will join on a year's loan from Newcastle United.

i used to sit in east stand in the corner with my dad then i got a season ticket in west terrace but i ain't been to a gamev since preston at ome last season due to my work commitments.

Motherwell midfielder James McFadden is another definite target for Coventry as he is quoted in a Sunday newspaper saying as much. City's interest in McFadden is not suprising for several reasons

a) he would solve Coventry's problem left-sided problem
b) He is cheap due to the fact Motherwell are in administration
c) Eric Black and his Motherwell inside knowledge

McFadden has only come to the fore in the last 6 months scoring 9 goals in a struggling Motherwell team but is in the Scotland squad that Bertie Vogts took the Far East and one of the bright young talents in Scottish football. However other clubs such as Bolton have been rumoured to be interested.
