3-0 over Colchester in the League Cup, 11/9/02. Of course, this is the only Sky Blues match I've attended....

The under 17s notched up their third consecutive win of the season, beating Bristol City 6-0.
Mark Goodman got his second hat-trick of the season bringing his goal-scoring tally to seven with only six games gone in the 2002-2003 campaign.
Goals from Liam Nicell, Andrew Hall and an own goal saw Brian Borrows’ men achieve their biggest win of the season so far.
However, there were more woes for the under 19s, who suffered their fifth defeat of the season at the hands of Ipswich Town. The game finished 2-0.

The Sky Blues have parted company with central defender Steve Walsh.
Gary McAllister signed the seasoned pro on a non-contract basis in light of the injury Mo Konjic sustained while on international duty and Calum Davenport’s suspension.
Walsh featured in two games for City – the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace and the 5-2 defeat at Watford - but with other players now fit and available for selection again the ex-Leicester captain has been released by the club.

Sky Blue Sam took part in the British Mascot Grand National this weekend and put on a gallant display in a somewhat competitive race!
Wings were flapped and claws were sharpened as the mascots jostled on the start line. Sam eventually got off the starting line and after negotiating the six fences and the 200 metre course, finished 49th.
But controversy surrounded the winner of the race, with a stewards’ inquiry taking place to decide whether Oldham Athletic’s Chaddy the Owl was the rightful winner. After the length of his footwear was measured to ascertain if he started from an illegal position - race rules state that mascots with normal shoes and not costume boots are handicapped and start further back – officials announced the result would stand, as Chaddy had abnormally long shoes.
Although not a winner, Sam was pleased with his performance.
“All my training seemed to pay off – I’ve improved on last year’s position of 100th so I’m very happy. It was very competitive out there – it was every mascot for himself but it was all good fun. The most important thing was that we were able to raise funds for the NSPCC.”

I think us covfans have now found a new friend (Post from CM4 Forum) http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...7&m=9131933495

quote:
I'm talking about that amazing defender for Cov. City. Tell me, why do you lot over at SI always make him so bloody awful? Dribbling '8? EIGHT?? That is an absolute focking disgrace. He is by far our best player, and you made him worse than Callum Focking Davenport. MAKE-HIM-BETTER!

quote:
what's your best sky blue memory then ?

Beating Villa 1~0 at Villa Park (Moldavan) in 1998, excellent day (as well as 1987 of course) - Missed that one.
When we beat Man Utd 3-2 - I WAS THERE!
Drawing 3-3 with wimbledon with 9 men - I WAS THERE!
Beating blackburn 5-0 on a frosty pitch - I WAS THERE!
Beating spurs 3-2 in league cup after being 2-0 down at H/ - I WAS THERE!
I often discuss this with my dad. he was at the cup final, so no contest there. I actually really enjoyed the 4-3 over Man City last season, and also the late win against Norwich. They were great moments. Other great games:
The 0-0 with Leeds in 1996 that kept us up on goal difference - Brian Deane missed an open goal which would have put us down.
THAT goal by Darren Huckerby to seal the 3-2 win over Utd in 1998. That was the best moment for me.
Beating Macclesfield 7-0 was good fun, but not as good as a 10-1 friendly win against Jersey - in Jersey! I was there!
Robbie Keane's début was great fun as well.
I have a poster on my bedroom wall. It is an enlarged picture of the scoreboard at Old Trafford when we went 1-0 up in the relegation season.
Man Utd 0
Coventry 1
That's all very well, but what was your worst moment as a City fan?
I remember losing 2-1 at home to Derby in '97, it looked like we really were down then... The 0-0 with Stockport last season... 3-1 defeat at home to Everton in the relegation season... Losing to Sheff UTd on penalties in 1998... Losing to Charlton in the Cup in the 'Robbie Keane season'.... the stunned silence as Neil Harris struck the winner on Saturday...
But obviously it's the relegation defeat at Villa. It was just a horrible, horrible feeling when the final whistle went. It was such a proud record, the last team never to be relegated from the top division. it was all the club had, it was what the club WAS. so many last gasp escapes, and it just ended - we hadn't made it. it was absolutely ****ing awful.

Are We Going To Finish The Season? Errr....
By Neville Hadsley
Date: 30/9/2002
Hands up if you're not in the smelly stuff... the sicknote route to salvation... Mr Chippo's brilliant idea from planet Zog... make your mark in the Michael Gynn testimonial campaign... falling towers (part 94)... and another Saturday game goes. Yep, it's a right old Sky Blue stew...
I've had a worrying email from GMK correspondent Mick Tedder. I shall relay it to you in full. (If you are, for some reason standing while reading this - maybe in one of BT's new fangled internet phone booths - I suggest you find something solid to hold on to.)
Mick's missive went thus:
Neville,
Have you had chance to peruse today's Observer yet?
Interesting article with (Crystal Palace chairman) Simon Jordan in which he says that at a recent meeting of Division One chairman, the question was asked "hands up all those whose clubs can definitely guarantee fulfilling their fixtures this season?"
Three hands went up: those from Wolves, Portsmouth and Norwich.
Bloody Nora.
It's funny how silent chairman Mike McGinnity is on this question - no word yet from McGinnity Mansions on rumours that City are days away from administration. Perhaps he's working on the principle that if he has no good news to tell, he'll spare us and say nothing. Which is nice.
But now we have the strongest confirmation yet that, after 119 years, we may yet go under.
I suspect that this hand to mouth existence will go on for some time to come. What gets me is that the likes of Keith O'Neill and Julian Joachim continue to draw fabulous wages from the club despite playing no part in the club's admittedly faltering fight for promotion.
Keith O'Neill - really needs the cash
While Mr Joachim and Mr O'Neill no doubt have legitimate needs for their excessive wages and are in no way inclined to fritter away their largesse in bookmakers and bars, wouldn't it be a great gesture on their part to voluntarily accept a temporary pay cut - say 10% - while they sit out injured? Too much to ask? Yes, I suppose so. But this small gesture could save City up to £10,000 a month and may be the difference between staying solvent and going under. You never know.
One Sky Blues player who enjoyed only a fraction of Mr O'Neill's wages while he was running his guts out for Coventry City Football Club is Michael Gynn - who helped City secure their only trophy in the last 35 years - the FA Cup in 1987.
Michael spent ten years at Highfield Road, save for a few months, before being transferred by Bobby Gould. In that time, few people gave more dedicated service to this club. He recently wrote to the chairman to ask the chairman for a testimonial.
To help promote this just cause, an online petition has been set up and all City fans are urged to sign it. To reach it, click here.
The demolition of the Tower last week caused a bit of a stir - some might say it was historic. Another GMK correspondent, Adrian Barlow sent me a superb video recording of the event which I have being trying for a while to get on this site. Sadly, none of the Rivals bods can tell me, as yet, how I can get it on GMK.
I'm still working at it but being first and foremost a mag person rather than an internet whizz some patience may be required. As soon as it is on, I'll make a bit of fanfare of it.
In the meantime if anyone wants the recording then email me by clicking here
Youssef Chippo's hilarious assertion over the weekend that City should re-sign Moustapha Hadji shows just how out of touch with reality footballers are. Whatever planet Chippo is on, it certainly is not in our solar system.
I'm sure his desire to help out his old friend got the better of him but has he not read the papers recently? Little matter of Nationwide League clubs struggling against bankruptcy? A situation not made any better by the sort of wages our Moroccan comrades are currently drawing?
There is no way City can afford Hadji's wages at the moment and even if the club could, it would hardly be justified given the unevenness of his performances during his last stint at Highfield Road.
Hadji doesn't help his own cause by saying he wants to play for Morocco again. Apart from anything else having three players out for five weeks when the next African Nations Cup comes around is something we do not need.
And speaking of internationals, The Norwich game on October 12 is most likely the latest to fall victim to this particular irritant. It means that, having had three home league games in the last fortnight, City do not have another for four weeks. It's crazy, but then, only what we've come to expect from fixture planners. Is a simple home-away-home-away pattern too much to ask?
