Coventry City fans have been assured that their club will not go the same way as Bradford City and end up in administration.
Sky Blues chief executive Graham Hover, pictured, however, believes the loss of TV money from the collapse of ITV Digital will see a host of clubs following suit and even going to the wall.
City stand to lose £5 million in TV money during the next two years if Football League clubs fail to sue Carlton and Granada successfully in the High Court.
But Hover revealed that the club are on course to reach their short-term target of a reduced debt of £30 million by next month and is confident the situation is under control.
"Bradford have gone into administration and I am in no doubt that more clubs will follow," Hover said.
"I think it will concern lower division clubs a lot more than First Division clubs because, while their proportion of the TV money is smaller, it makes up a huge percentage of their turnover.
"We still believe we can get our debts down and should know more by the end of the month but we have acted prudently to ensure that we have avoided this happening to Coventry City."
Bradford, who were relegated the same season as the Sky Blues, went into administration yesterday with debts of £13 million.
The Bantams' problems stem from the fact that they do not have a great deal of saleable assets.
"When they came out of the Premier League they had already sold the majority of their playing assets.
"We managed to net £15 million from the sale of players when we came down and we still have marketable assets now.
"We have still got heavy debts but we are working hard to manage those," Hover added.
Although he's currently on the other side of the world playing for Scotland, speculation over the future of central defender Gary Caldwell continues, with the Chronicle claiming that he is close to agreeing to join First Division Coventry City.
Having seen his loan period at Hibernian coincide with a major talent search by new national team coach Berti Vogts, the younger of the two Caldwell brothers is not surprisingly keen to continue playing first team football next season to maintain his international place.
While Hibs would love to have him in their lineup again, their precarious financial position makes anything other than a further loan unlikely - unless Bobby Robson can convince the youngster that there's a valid reason for keeping him in toon, then it's inevitable that he'll depart, be it to Highfield Road or another new home.
Gary has been offered a new three year deal by Newcastle, and although he'll soon be out of contract if he fails to sign it, we would be entitled to a transfer fee in the form of compensation for his development through the academy and beyond
Coventry City have emerged as the favourites to sign former Barnsley star Darren Barnard who quit the club last month.
Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore has confirmed his interest in the winger and Sheffield Wednesday are also believed to be on his trail.
But sources close to Barnard say that he expects to agree a deal with the Sky Blues.
It is understood that Barnard was on £12,000-a-week at Oakwell as a legacy of Barnsley's season in the Premiership.
Even if The Reds had avoided relegation, they would have struggled to offer him a tempting contract
We seem to be linked with nearly ever player who has fallen out with his squad. How ironic, when we had the money we were never linked with players but not we are in debt we are suddenly intrested in every player under the sun.
