Just don't think Macalister played him. It is a shame though, I saw him against Wimbledon last year and he was excellant.

What a thread! I have found my home on these CM forums...

Delorge is very favourite Coventry player. I have a season ticket, and in the home games last year he was dynamite - every time he started a run we got a corner, a penealty appeal, or a chance.

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.What’s your prediction on how City will do this season - and why?

2. Which City player do you think will be most important to city this season (assume Hedman, Thompson and Hughes will be leaving)

3 Which City player most underperformed last season

4. Which team are you looking forward to playing most – and least

5. Who will get relegated – and promoted (name three teams in each category)

1 - AP (Automatic Promotion) - Macca will be naturally brilliant as a manager, plus we have him as a player

2 - Laurent Delorge

3 - Julian Joachim

4 - Wimbledon (I like counting the away fans when Wimbledon come). Least - Wolves as they'll probably beat us. We haven't beaten them in anything since the 70s I've heard.

5 - Do you mean from the Premiership? If so, West Brom, Birmingham and Southampton (see Strachan crash and burn). Promoted will be Derby, Coventry and Millwall (playoffs).

Lineup next year:

Hedman (no-one will buy him)
Gordon
Konjic
Caldwell
Quinn
Chippo
Safri
McAllister
Thompson (nor him)
Mills
McSheffrey (Hughes will go, Bothroyd not good enough, maybe Joachim if he is fit).

I don't think we'll be able to sell Hedman or Thompson. There are so many bosman players around the market for players like these has gone. I would actually rather we sold them both for say 5 million put together. I'm really worried about this owing WBA money for Hughes - I really think we might go bust. Did you know that we have to pay £9'000'000 by the end of this year? Where the hell are we going to get that from, seriously? And after that we will still owe £20'000'000, which will eventually have to be paid. Not good.

By the way, a good Cov site is <www.sbs.depro.co.uk>

From www.ccfc.com

Calum Davenport says he is enjoying his pre-season experiences so far – and stressed he would love to be involved when the season starts on August 10.
Speaking following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with VfR Aalen - in which he played the whole 90 minutes – the defender also enthused that he isn’t phased playing alongside new player-manager Gary McAllister.
“The Aalen game was a bit more difficult than Monday’s match but I still really enjoyed it. It’s great to be out there playing football.
“I trained with Gary McAllister when he was a player here before so I’m not really nervous about him being in the team – you just have to try and forget the fact that he’s manager too!
“It doesn’t put you on edge – I suppose it just makes you try even harder!
“I’m looking forward to the league and I really want to be involved. I don’t see myself as one of the starting players, but I hope I can achieve that soon.
“I’ve just got to give my best and see how it goes. I’m still only young so hopefully, my day will come.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My predicted lineup.

Hedman (won't sell him)
Gordon
Konjic
Caldwell
Quinn (hopefully we'll sign someone 'cos this guy's sh*te))
Delorge
McAllister/ Safri
Eustace
Chippo
McSheffery
Joachim (mabye)

We won't go bust. The bank are expecting too much money from Coventry to pull the plug and I am sure a certain Coventry City fan (Cough*Eddie Jordan) would not let us go bust.

I actually go to the same school as Eddie Jordan's son, Zak. Every time I see him I say 'get your dad to give CCFC a few million please'. Zak says that his dad is now putting money into Celtic and.... Villa I wouldn't rely on Eddie Jordan.

And we don't just owe money to the bank. We owe some of it to Geoffrey Robinson, labour MP of Coventry. However this is good as he is not going to demand his money from the club. This is because doing that would probably make the club go bust, and he is not likely to win his Coventry seat if he makes the local football team go under... So let's hope Labour continue to stay in power, so Robinson remains MP of Coventry. The thing is, that money does not even count in our debt total. We really owe £45-60 million, but the debt we really need to pay is £30 million. £9 million of it absolutely must be paid by 2003 - the banks have said they need the money, and anyway not all the money is owed to the bank, but to other people who want it back.

This is a seriously bad situation. We have to get £1.5 million to West Brom (an installment of the £5'000'001 for Lee Hughes), otherwise we will have a transfer embargo placed on us. And I promise you that £9 million HAS to be paid. I hope we get selling straight away, I would rather sell the entire team and go down to Division Two than disappear completely. I would genuinely be upset if we bought Bobby Zamora or someone for four million or whatever he cost. It is vital we are careful now. Too many gambles have not worked (i.e. Lee Hughes was a gamble last season - he was supposed to get us up) and we can't afford to lose any more

Much traveled keeper Dave Beasant is still not sure whether his future lies at Portsmouth despite being offered another one year deal. Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has already told the 43 year old he is likely to be on the substitutes bench at the expense of first choice Shaka Hislop. Beasant is keeping his options open knowing both Leicester and Coventry have expressed an interest. He said: "I know I have got another two seasons left in me so this is a big decision. I really enjoyed it at Portsmouth last season but at my age you need to be playing regular first-team football. "I have had a couple of other offers which I will need to consider so we will just have to wait and see what happens in the next few days."

We won't go bust, we'll sell our team if we go into administration.

Dave Beasant... Hopefully we'll sell Hedman for 3 million to some suckers and sign Beasant. Better him than Hyldgaard or Montgomery (one game between them).

'Litmanen makes shock move to Coventry on a free transfer, and will play for no wages'. No, not really, I made that up.

quote:
Newspapers reported last night that Coventry City are struggling to find the cash they need to pay West Bromwich Albion the next instalment of the £5m they owe for the signing of Lee Hughes last year.

Should City be unable to find the £1.5m they are reported to need for the instalment, the newly-promoted Baggies take action to cover the debt - and one solution is to order the return of the flame-haired striker.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace was due to meet with fellow directors and officials from the Premier League on Friday (July 19) in a bid to find a solution.

Rumours of a return to the Hawthorns for Hughes have been rife since the latter part of last season, when Baggies boss Gary Megson made an audacious bid to sign the striker on loan.

Megson is believed to be chasing a new striker before the start of the club's Premiership campaign, but it is reported he is put off by the striker's wages, believed to be around £17,500 a week.

Should Hughes be recalled by West Brom, it will leave City with a further financial headache.

The club has stated openly it will have to sell some of its biggest assets to try and balance the books with transfer fees and cutting the wage bill.

If Hughes goes back, City will lose their outgoings on his salary plus cash already paid with no hope of getting it back.

So West Brom would get Lee Hughes back for nowt and make money on the deal as we wouldn't get the money we have already paid back. Seems a bit unfair to me.

Gary McAllister’s men play the final matches of their pre-season tour today when they take part in an international tournament against Bundesliga team FC Nurnberg and Bulgarian side Slavia Sofia in Nuremburg.
The mini-competition kicks off at 14:00h local time, with teams playing 23 minutes in each half.
The hosts Nurnberg will take on Slavia Sofia first at 14.00h, before Coventry face the Bulgarian side one hour later and for the final game, play against the German team at 16.00h.
The majority of the Sky Blues’ players are likely to see some action in the tournament.
