Hedman to Celtic?

"Here on Coventry roads
We speak with an accent exceedingly rare
You want a cathedral, we've got one to spare
Here on Coventry roads"

Celtic are ready to swoop for Coventry City goalkeeper Magnus Hedman.
Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill is expected to offer £1.5 million for the Swedish international, who has been told he can leave by Highfield Road chiefs.
O'Neill admitted: "I want someone to come in not just as cover, but to challenge for top position." Hedman has indicated that he would be happy to join fellow Swedes Henrik Larsson and Johan Mjallby in Glasgow.

McAllister Off To A Flyer As Sky Blues Hit Six

By Kev Monks
Date: 15/7/2002

SV Neusorg 0 Coventry City 6

Report by Kev Monks in Neusorg (courtesy of www.gmkonline)
Coventry City boss Gary McAllister got his Sky Blues managerial career off to the best possible start with this fine victory against SV Neusorg on the opening game of City's pre-season tour of Germany.

The game, which celebrated the 70th anniversary of the German fifth division club, proved to be a long but ultimately satisfying trip for the 13 Sky Blues fans who made the 12-hour journey to the heavily wooded region of Germany.
City played well throughout the game with some crisp passing and excellent ball skills from the likes of John Eustace, Gary McSheffrey, Jairo Martinez and Craig Pead.

The Sky Blues opened their account after 28 minutes when Martinez was able to tap home after good work from Lee Mills and McSheffrey.

At the interval Dean Gordon was brought on for his Sky Blues debut and impressed with his powerful attacking runs.

After 53 minutes, Eustace burst through from midfield shrugging off the attentions of two defenders and rounding the keeper Prell to cooly slide the ball home.

City made it three after 62 minutes when McSheffrey slotted home and two minutes later Ysrael Zuniga converted from the spot after Prell had upended Martinez in the box.

City made it three goals in five minutes when, after 67 minutes, Gordon's shot from 12 yards struck the bar and Martinez was on hand to score City's fifth and his second.

City completed their scoring at the death when Robert Betts burst into the box and was upended by Prell. Betts picked himself up to score the resulting penalty.

It completed a very enjoyable victory for McAllister, the team and the fans who had made the journey.

Scorers: Martinez (28, 0-1) Eustace (53, 0-2) McSheffrey (62, 0-3) Zuniga (pen, 64, 0-4) Martinez (67, 0-5), Betts (pen, 90, 0-6)

City (4-4-2): Montgomery; Pead, Shaw, Davenport (Gordon, 45) Betts; Zuniga, Chippo, Eustace, Martinez; Mills (Quinn, 45) McSheffrey.

Attendance: 648.

The Germans took one Hell Of a beating. I had to laugh though at CET's latest attempt to make our next opponents sound terriying.

'They narrowly avoided promotion. From German Division 3'

from www.ccfc.co.uk

Coventry City is giving supporters the opportunity to put their questions to Chairman Mike McGinnity in conjunction with a new feature in the club’s matchday programme.
The Sky Blues Chief will be the subject of “20 questions” in the first programme of the season - and we’re giving you the opportunity to ask him what you always wanted.
From the serious to the silly, the question can cover any subject area, with the best 20 printed in the Sheffield United edition on August 10.
Please email your question to jo.lea@ccfc.co.uk, making sure you include your name and address. The person who pens the best question will win two tickets for a home league game of their choice.
